A British family-run business, Hypnos is one of the best manufacturers in the furniture industry. They have become renowned for their high-quality products and excellent craftsmanship of mattresses and beds. In actual fact, they have been perfecting the art of making luxury products since Edwardian days. This means that they have over 100 years of experience, in bed-making and have gained extensive insight into what makes for a good night’s sleep.

You may already know all this, but did you know that whilst producing fantastic products they have also been focusing on sustainability throughout the business for over 11 years. They have undergone a journey which has seen them become the first carbon-neutral bedmaker in the world. They have even more recently received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development.

Since this, they have also received the Interiors Monthly Award for Sustainability in Furniture 2020. This is an accolade that recognised their commitment to low carbon and ethical manufacturing.

As a whole, Hypnos have championed the importance of doing out bit for the environment. This includes sustainability, and carbon reduction throughout the bed industry and they are pleased that other bed manufacturers have started to make take steps towards becoming carbon-neutral too.

They have now announced that they have been recognised with the prestigious ‘The Planet Mark – Carbon Neutral Certification’. This follows over a decade of being carbon neutral and an offset of over 9,550 tonnes of carbon along the way. This reflects their commitment to carbon neutrality and environmentally friendly product design.

This fantastic certification comes not long after Hypnos announced that it has pioneered a new sustainable bed and mattress packaging solution. This solution, after many months of research, offers recyclable and eco-friendly packaging that can be used across their beds and mattresses throughout both their retail and contract factories.

This new packaging uses sugar cane which is a renewable source that is also carbon dioxide depleting. When combined with recycled plastic it has a carbon footprint that can be up to four times lower than normal plastic. The part of the sugar cane that is used is sugar can ethanol. This is a by-product of sugar cane production, meaning that its creation is carbon neutral and 100% recyclable.

This new innovation goes along with their products that are made with 100% natural and sustainable fibres and are fully recyclable. Hypnos has explained more about their Sustainability mission and how they strive to make the world a better place on their website.
